Mathematics

At Key Stage 3 pupils follow a 12-week course of study based upon topics taken from the National Curriculum, whilst improving their general numeracy skills.

At Key Stage 4 there are a number of pathways that pupils can take leading to qualifications in:

  • GCSE Mathematics – foundation or higher level and
  • Functional Skills Mathematics – Entry Level, Level 1 or 2

or

  • ELC Mathematics

Teachers are encouraged to use a variety of approaches and make use of ICT as appropriate. Where possible, links should be made between mathematics and the real world and between different topics within mathematics. We try to make lessons as enjoyable by playing games and learning through practical activities where possible.

Pupils are assessed when they join us and we aim to address any misconceptions or missing basic numeracy skills that they have before they return to school or continue with the GCSE courses.
